DETAIL DESCRIPTION It was yesterday evening (01/03/18,) shortly after 5:30pm and with traffic picking up. It was a very windy and cold day for Fort Lauderdale. Trash debris in the wind along major roads are already issues in areas near the beach.
This person stopped to open their car door while waiting in the southbound left-turn lane of S Federay Hwy (US-1) At the crossroads of SE 15th St (Just in front of the Boston Market.)
He took the time to tie off an entire plastic shopping bag, filled with trash, and dump it along the curb, yet not entirely out of the way of traffic. (I was directly behind him, waiting behind a line of cars - I think he went left, but I was making a U-turn.) There isnt a lot of space in that area, and its not the safest place to stand outside of a car. With high winds, and being placed in the turn lane, it would inevitably have been scattered throughout the roadway and become a potential threat to the high pedestrian area along the major roadsides.
Its also dangerously close to the beach, etc.
There was a gas station nearby with trash bins, he had already taken the time to tie a full small bag of trash.... why dump it into the road in front of cars like that?
I honked at him and took down his license plate number. I took a picture of his car, trying to get a clean plate number, but he noticed and sped off. |
